About Los Padres : President's Corner

A Personal Perspective

From our Chapter President

Steven Pickei

Dear Members,

Thank you all for your great participation in our Chapter and your interest in PMI. Our Chapter is now at about 535 members and covers the regions of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks and the San Fernando Valley. One of the primary goals of the Chapter is to provide our members with avenues for professional development in terms of knowledge, skills, and leadership opportunities for those who wish to participate in volunteer positions.

Our programs for knowledge development consist of dinner meetings, seminars, and Work Shop classes for those preparing to take the PMP exam. Our dinner meetings cover subject matter ranging from technical topics to "Soft Skill"topics that help us to better manage and function in our work environment. To further service the members in knowledge development, we also collaborate with professional speakers to provide half day to one day seminars, which also provides the opportunity to earn more PDUs. There are also lunch

meetings, seminars, and special holiday events held in the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara areas.

We want to make it easy to volunteer, develop their personal skills, and make a difference in the Chapter. Everyone has something unique to contribute and we want to provide every opportunity for our members to get involved. We find that the right blend of "Commitment", "Personal Development", and "Fun"motivates volunteers and keeps them actively engaged. The personal time contributed by volunteers is a limited resource that we respect and factor into all activities. As such, we provide volunteers with all possible flexibility to manage volunteer assignments in accordance with their personal time.

Our Chapter organization covers the areas of Finance, Programs Development, Operations, Membership, and Communications (web, newsletter, advertising & sponsorships) supported by VP level, Director level and staff coordinator positions. The VP and Director level positions provide volunteers with the opportunity to lead a team, manage key functions of the Chapter, and participate in PMI Regional events. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in joining the Chapter volunteer staff and need further details.

I look forward to meeting the Chapter members each month at the dinner meetings in Thousand Oaks and future events.
